The Vice Chancellor of Graduate Studies/Graduate Dean oversees the Division and is an ex
officio member of the Graduate Council. The Dean and the Associate Deans provide academic leadership
for program development, planning, and decision making in the Graduate Division. The deans are available for
assistance if students cannot solve problems within their departments.

Assistant Vice Chancellor
Assistant Vice Chancellor Bersola works with the Vice Chancellor/Dean on the overall
administration of Graduate Division services, on special projects and programmatic efforts
to improve graduate education.

Carlos V. Grijalva
Associate Dean
Dean Grijalva has a major responsibility for fellowships, outreach and diversity issues. In addition he serves as the lead Associate Dean for the Alliance in Graduate Education in
the Professoriate (AGEP) and the Diversity Initiative for Graduate Study in the Social Sciences
(DIGSSS) grants.

Ross Shideler
Associate Dean
Dean Shideler serves as the departmental and Campus Human Resources liaison for collective
bargaining and as the liaison to the Graduate Council Committee on Degree Programs. In addition
he is responsible for academic program reviews and graduate student housing.

M. Belinda Tucker
Associate Dean
Dean Tucker has responsibility for postdoctoral and visiting scholar appointments, the Institute of
American Cultures, and serves as the liaison to the Graduate Council Committee on Fellowships &
Assistantships.
